Types of wood

Carpentry is half about your skills as a woodworker and half about knowing which types of wood to uses for which project.

Here I'll outline the options ou have when choosing timber and the charactertistics of each.

Ash

Ash is a popular alternative to red oak although it's not ideal if your project has a low budget.

Sure it's tough (Ash is often used in wood flooring) but you'll be paying a premium for that so consider carefully the tradeoff.
